Follow these steps to set up your Ledger hardware wallet
Carefully unbox your Ledger device and check that all components are present. You should have:
Only use a genuine Ledger device purchased directly from the official shop.ledger.com website or authorized resellers.
Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable. The device should power on automatically.
If this is your first time using the device, you will see a welcome message on the screen.
Ledger Live is the official application to manage your Ledger device and cryptocurrency assets.
Download and install Ledger Live for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
Download Ledger LiveOpen Ledger Live and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device. Choose "Set up as new device" if this is your first Ledger.
The application will guide you through the process step by step.
Your device will prompt you to set up a PIN code. This code protects your device from unauthorized access.
Choose a PIN code between 4 and 8 digits and confirm it.
Your device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. This is the most important part of your wallet security.
Write down the words in the exact order on your recovery sheet.
Never digitalize your recovery phrase - don't take photos, store in cloud services, or type it on a computer. Write it on the provided recovery sheet and store in a secure location.
Your device will ask you to confirm some of the words from your recovery phrase to ensure you've written them down correctly.
Use Ledger Live to install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. Each cryptocurrency requires its own app.
For example, install Bitcoin app to manage Bitcoin, Ethereum app for Ethereum, etc.
In Ledger Live, add accounts for each cryptocurrency you want to use. Your accounts will be synchronized with your Ledger device.
Your Ledger is now ready to use! You can receive, send, and manage your cryptocurrency assets securely.

If you lose your recovery phrase, you will lose access to your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. There is no way to recover your funds without the recovery phrase. This is why it's crucial to store your recovery phrase in a secure location and never digitalize it. Ledger cannot recover your recovery phrase for you.
